Recently completed, Canyon Lights, acrylic on canvas, 36" X 48", is an original acrylic painting by George Porter. It depicts a view from Cape Royal on the North Rim of the Grand Canyon at sunset. On the left, the arching towers of Wotans Throne rise majestically towards an active cloud-filled sky colored scarlet, orange, magenta, purple and yellow from the setting sun. On the right, a lone Condor flies over the canyon valley towards the viewer. 

George Porter created Canyon Lights as a gift for his wife at her request. Canyon Lights recently was submitted by the artist for inclusion in the Spring Juried Show at Oregon Society of Artists, 2185 SW Park Place, Portland, Oregon 97205March 6-31, 2016. George Porter created Andy in the Mountains, a study of Albert Bierstadt's In the Mountains as a gift for his daughter to memorialize her horse, Andy Andy Bo Bandy, a chestnut thoroughbred gelding and eventing champion, who died tragically on May 21, 2014. Andy and the artist's daughter, watch from the far shore in an earlier and happier time as Andy leaves this world running wild and free in the right foreground. Behind him, his grandfather, Seattle Slew, can be seen in the rocks watching over the newborn foal. A heavenly Andy waits for the artist's daughter who will always and forever be his "person".
